THE ROLE OF RELIGIOUS STUDIES ON THE PREVENTION OF LESBIANISM AMONG UNDERGRADUATES IN NIGERIA INSTITUTIONS. A CASE STUDY OF ADEKUNLE AJASIN UNIVERSITY, AKUNGBA-AKOKO
ABSTRACT
This research is a study carried out to determine The Role of Religious Studies on the Prevention of Lesbianism among Undergraduates in Nigeria Institutions, A case study of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko. Four research questions were raised, and one Research Hypothesis was tested for the study. Descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. A sample of one hundred and eighty respondents participated in the study. The main research instrument was a questionnaire which was designed for students of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko to respond to, the questionnaire was tested for reliability using Cronbach Alpha formula and the reliability co-efficient yielded 0.84. Other instrument used is interview. The instrument (questionnaire) were checked for content and construct validity by three experts in Arts Education and the research supervisor also ensured face validity of the instrument before administration. Data obtained were analysed using simple percentage, frequency count, bar charts, and the hypothesis was tested using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA).
Findings from the study shows that Religion and religious studies is taking a major and significant role in ensuring that the act of lesbianism is being curbed in Nigerian Higher institutions ,going by the results given from the responses of sample selected for this research work. Result from the research work also shows that lesbianism is gradually gaining ground among students of higher institutions in Nigeria. It could also be observed from the findings of this research work that people shared mixed feelings about whether religious studies is capable of preventing lesbianism in Nigerian higher institutions. However, a reasonable number of the respondents are of a strong believe that religious studies actually has what it takes to prevent this immoral act. Also, this research work found out that students are enlightened to a reasonable extent on the dangers involved in the practices of lesbianism and as such are refraining from the act.
