A PHILOSOPHICAL ANALYSIS OF THE IMPLICATIONS OF JOHN DEWEY’S INSTRUMENTALISM ON ENTREPRENEURIAL DEVELOPMENT

ABSTRACT
This work is an attempt to examine the philosophical arguments presented by John Dewey with respect to the theory of knowledge for practical gains. The work sought to clearly articulate Dewey’s thought within the framework of ideas and experience and how they intersect with each other. The problem the work sought to address is how the current rave of entrepreneurship can be given a new direction, especially from the perspective of ideas matching with practice as inspired by Dewey’s instrumentalism. Thus, the method of conceptual/critical analysis, hermeneutics and inductive/deductive arguments are employed to achieve that aim. The major findings of the work are that entrepreneurial development must be engaged from an interdisciplinary matrix. This work is geared to translate John Dewey’s idea and thoughts to business sustainability, management and gains.
