Central Bus Terminal Port Harcourt Easy Circulation Flow

ABSTRACT

The importance of public transit system has been growing increasingly in order to achieve smooth traffic in urban areas. One of the most used transit systems is the bus transit system. In this study, the author aims to follow two points focusing on the role of bus transit system as public transportation. The first point is to review how to. treat and to clarify the significance of bus transit system with exclusive bus-ways in public transportation planning. The second is to examine, through comparative analysis with other transit systems, the relationship between the approach of planning and operation of infrastructure and the transportation service offered.   Despite the increasing popularity of luxury buses transportation in this country, little or nothing is available in regards to provision of terminal facilities to cope with the resultant explosion in the number of buses. Presently there is little that can safely pass for a bus station, except for some loading and booking places owned by some private transporters. This project report on Bus terminal will provide detailed information and solutions on the proposed central bus terminal for Rivers State transport company, Port Harcourt. The project is grouped into seven (7) chapters; Chapters one and two deal with the introduction and historical background, definition and terminal types. Chapter three deal on case studies of existing terminal facilities both local and foreign. Chapters four and five treats the components of bus terminal, their planning and construction data and special design consideration for bus terminal. And chapters six and seven deal with site location and analysis and the proposed design. It is important that government policies and regulations regarding road transport create and maintain conditions conducive to the evolution of a progressive efficient and integrated road transport system with adequate terminal facilities. In conclusion, through comparative analysis of case studies, the author clarifies the need to site the terminal outside the town to accommodate the facili.ties for the buses to operate effectively and efficiently.
