ABSTRACT
This study assesses the conflict management and organizational performance in Anambra State: A study of Federal Polytechnic Oko, Anambra State. The purpose of this study was to determine the extent of the relationship between conflict management strategies and employees performance in Federal Polytechnic Oko, whether collective bargaining and joint consultation are the methods employed by the Federal Polytechnic Oko in solving conflict and to determine if effective conflict management positively affect employee’s performance in Federal Polytechnic Oko. Theory of conflict management strategy was adopted as the theoretical framework. The researcher adopted survey research design. The data obtained from a sample of 333 people were analyzed using simple percentage and tested with chi-square technique. The results of the research shows that there is a significant relationship between conflict management strategies and employees performance in Federal Polytechnic Oko; Collective bargaining and joint consultation are the methods employed by the Federal Polytechnic Oko in solving conflict and effective conflict management positively affects employee’s performance in Federal Polytechnic Oko. Thereafter, it was recommended that the management of organizations should always employ collective bargaining and joint consultation mechanism in dispute resolution since it has been established that it is an effective means of resolving industrial conflict. Secondly, the organizations should constitute a collective bargaining and joint consultation panel that will regularly meet with labour unions to bargain on issues that might disrupt the activities of the organization. Thirdly, since conflict is indispensable in an organisation, management should not take it with kids’ glove as it can influence the employee performance, and this can either mar or make the organisation in achieving its stipulated objectives from time to time and lastly, the organisation should embark on training and retraining of its employees in area of conflict management so as to create a conductive working environment for the employees.
