HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT AND UTILIZATION IN NIGERIA UNIVERSITIES- A STUDY OF THE STAFF OF THE UNIVERSITY OF NIGERIA, NSUKKA (2008-2015)

ABSTRACT

This study was focused on Human resource development and utilization in Nigeria Universities, a study of the staff of the University of Nigeria Nsukka (2008 – 2015). Cross-sectional survey design as well as the proportionate simple random sampling technique was used and both primary and secondary sources of data collection were employed. The instruments for data collection were validated by experts in the field and its reliability guaranteed by the test re-test technique before the actual administration. The study was anchored on system theory which emphasized the interdependency of component units that make up the whole. Chi-square was used in testing the hypotheses. Findings from the study showed that there is problem of staff development and utilization in the University of Nigeria Nsukka, especially among the non-teaching staff. The study thus recommended among other things, that the University management has to embark on in-service-training programmes for the staff, especially the non-teaching ones to enable them acquire and develop more skills to meet the demand of their jobs and also at intervals organize orientation, conferences, workshops, seminars and lectures for their staff so as to update staff knowledge in their job.
