INFLUENCE OF CLIMATE CHANGE ON SECONDARY SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION IN EBONYI STATE

ABSTRACT

This study investigated the influence of climate change on secondary school administration in Ebonyi state. Four research questions and four null hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. The study adopted survey design. The population of the study was 521 principals in both public and private secondary schools in Ebonyi state. A proportionate stratified random technique was used to select 260 principals from the three educational zones in Ebonyi State. The instrument used for data collection was questionnaire. Cronbach Alpha was used to measure the internal consistency co-efficient of the instrument and co-efficient of 0.70,0.55,0.58 and 0.57 was obtained for clusters A,B,C and D respectively. The overall co-efficient of the instrument is 0.71.This result shows that the instrument is reliable. The research questions were answered using mean and standard deviation.t- test statistics was also used to test the four null hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The findings of the study revealed that; Climate change has an influence on school- community relationship, staff-personnel administration, availability of physical facilitiesro and pupil- personnel administration to a Great Extent in secondary schools administration in Ebonyi State.the findings also revealed that there is no significant difference between the mean ratings of urban and rural principals on the extent of climate change influence on school–community relationship and staff –personnel administration in secondary school administration in Ebonyi State, there is significant difference between the mean ratings of urban and rural principals on the extent of climate change influences in the availability of physical facilities and pupil-personnel administration in secondary schools administration in Ebonyi State. Based on the above findings, it was recommended among others that there should be synergy between all stakeholders, public and private sector to proactively tackle the challenge of climate change.
