PROBLEM AFFECTING THE OPERATION OF SMALL SCALES BUSINESS AND SURVIVAL IN NIGERIA – A STUDY OF NNEWI NORTH LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF ANAMBRA STATE
ABSTRACT
This paper provide empirical evidence on problem affecting the operation of small scales business and survival in Nigeria using Nnewi north local government area of Anambra. Thus, the study examined the various factors that hinder the growth and survival of small businesses in Nnewi north local government area (LGA) and also to investigate the various factors that enhances the small businesses growth and survival in Nnewi north LGA . Only primary data were used for the successful execution of this research work. Four hypotheses were formulated for this study, while data extracted through the questionnaires were tested with the Regression statistical tool using the Scientific Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) Version 20. The study concluded that there are problems affect the operation of small scale business and their survival in Nigeria. Therefore, the findings of the study showed that there is significant factors that hinder the growth and survival of small businesses in Nnewi north LGA., there is no significant factor that enhances the small business growth and survival in Nnewi north LGA and also globalization and competitiveness could not be among the problems affecting the survival of small business in Nnewi north LGA. The study recommended that government should provide a means of getting loans by small scale business owners in order to enhance the activities of small scale business in Nigeria, private investors are to support small scale business owners in order to facilitate the activities of small scale businesses and also Government should also put policies in place that will promote the activities of small businesses in Nigeria.
